With a supportive circle of family and friends, including her best friend Jayden, life seems perfect. But before she settles into her new role, a crushing tax debt threatens to snatch her dream away. Desperate to save her bookstore, Lisa cooks up an ambitious grand re-opening event to raise the funds she needs. Jayden Reynolds is on the brink of a major career milestone, becoming a partner at his accounting firm. Exciting news, right? Except, he’s grappling with uncertainty about his future as he secretly basks in the success of his romantic debut novel that has readers swooning. As he navigates the wild world of love and ambition, he’s also realizing that he wants more than just friendship with Lisa—the woman who has held his heart far longer than he can remember.

My Love Between the Pages Review

The title alone convinced me to read this book. I love stories that deal with authors, publishers, and book shops. Plus, there’s the whole childhood best friends to more trope. I love reading about couples who’ve known each other forever and slowly their eyes are opened to the fact that their love is more than friendship. And the characters are likable and relatable, all the characters, not just the main characters. The fact that their family and friends see what they refuse to see and don’t hesitate to stick their nose into Lisa and Jayden’s business is great.

I also like that the work-life balance is explored. Jayden wants to be present for future family, and he knows what he’s worked toward his whole life may not provide that opportunity. I know Lisa struggles to see that in him, but I’m not sure why as close as they are. Of course, Jayden is keeping a big secret from her. And while I get his reasoning for it to some extent, I feel the build-up for his nerves about it was huge compared to Lisa’s reaction to it. I know it was needed to add tension, but I felt he should have known her reaction. And his not telling her feels a bit like lying coming from a man of faith.

There is only one scene I really had an issue with and that was the one bed scene. Absolutely nothing happened between them in this scene, and for that, I’m glad. I think, though, that this bothered me because it wasn’t a one bed by necessity situation but one based solely on choice. And even after learning they’re sharing a hotel room (I initially thought a suite with two separate rooms or beds but was wrong), they make the choice to share the bed instead of sleeping separate as they originally planned. And it was presented with zero temptation even though they’re in a romantic relationship. And having them sleeping in the same bed together did nothing to progress the story, grow their relationship, or reveal anything new about the characters. They could have just as easily not shared the bed.

There are a lot of cute and fun scenes in the story that showcase not only Lisa and Jayden’s friendship, but also their relationships with both their mothers and Lisa’s best friend. These scenes invite the reader into their world, and you come away feeling like you know those people. You can probably even name who they are in your real life. I haven’t read the first book in the series, but I feel like I’d really enjoy the main characters because even as secondary characters, I liked them.

For my Love Between the Lines review I give the story three and a half stars (rounded to four). It’s a quick, easy, enjoyable read that features two of my favorite things, reading and writing.

About the Author

Natasha D. Frazier, author

Natasha D. Frazier fell in love with love around the age of twelve because of artists like Babyface, Boys II Men, Whitney Houston, and New Edition. Around sixteen when her mother purchased a romance novel and left it lying around the house untouched, Natasha read it and a spark for the written word had been ignited.

Natasha believes that writing is one of her purposes and contributions to the world. She feels accomplished when she can get a few words written and like blah when life gets in the way. Her hope is that at the end of every novel, readers will feel like they’ve been wrapped in a cozy blanket with a mug of their favorite coffee/tea/warm drink.

When she isn’t reading or writing, she is likely watching movies with her family. Natasha resides in Richmond, TX with her husband, Eddie Frazier, Jr. and their three children, Eden, Ethan, and Emilyn. Her greatest joy and commitment is to her family who she hopes to inspire above all else. One of her many mottos in life is: Faith removes limitations. Natasha and her family attend Parkway Fellowship in Richmond, TX, where she volunteers as a small group leader for elementary students. Natasha is also a member of the Houston Area Alumni Chapter of Jackson State University and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
